JINJO CREW Q&A

Taking time from a busy schedule, Korea’s Jinjo Crew answer the questions you asked them on our Facebook page! The crew, who won last year’s Braun BOTY, speak about inspiration, pretty women and winning without Hong10… 

How did Jinjo become a crew? What does Jinjo mean? Asked by: Ssj Chinja
We came together as a crew because we all had a mutual liking for each other as friends and we happened to have the same interest and love for b-boying. We became a crew in 2001. Jinjo is a Chinese character (Hanja) - meaning “rising fire”.

How do you feel being the top Korean crew at the moment? Do you feel pressure having to travel so much and being the prominent promoter for the Korean b-boy scene? Asked by: Luka Mladin
It makes us feel more motivated and pushes us to work harder. No, we don’t really feel much pressure!

How do you build up so much confidence when battling? Asked by: Jackson Lee
We get into the mindset that we need to put on the best show for the people who see our show. We strive to reach our fullest potential on stage because we practiced so hard for it.

How many hours of training do you guys do a day and what keeps you going? Also what steps did you take in getting where your crew is today? Asked by: Johnson J-theory Nguyen
We practice everyday from 3pm-9pm, so we train six hours a day minus the time we take a break to eat. What keeps us going is each other and our love for what we do. I don’t think there were any real steps that we took to get to where we are today. All we did was just keep our focus on dancing and everything fell into place. We just practiced and kept working hard.

What inspires you to practice and how did you feel battling Gamblerz at the Braun BOTY in 2010? Asked by: Zumu Uzu 
What inspires us to practice is our love for b-boying and our desire to put on the best possible show that we can give. We’ve competed with Gamblerz often in Korea so competing with them in BOTY was no different.

How do you create or practice routines that basically seem simple but simultaneously seem so unstoppable? Who the main choreographer in Jinjo Crew? How do you get the ideas? Asked by: Ted Vs World 
The main choreographers for Jinjo crew are Bboy Wing and Bboy Skim. They come up with the routines and everyone in the crew is able to pick up the routine and follow along quickly. We get ideas from things we see and hear everyday. We watch a lot of inspiring videos but sometimes ideas just come to us out of nowhere as well. Ideas can from nothing or anything, such as a pretty woman.

What strategie(s) have you planned/what moves have you trained for in order to win the BOTY 2012? Asked by: Charleli Ilano 
We always do what we normally do. There is no special strategy or moves planned. However, we will try our best to show something new and innovative.

How did your team crews’ souls become one? How do you guys work together like one b-boy? Your routines are at another level. HOW? Asked by: Vinh Quang Nguyen
Being with each other everyday. Even when we aren’t dancing we are always with each other just hanging out. This has naturally helped us become one b-boy. Constantly watching and being around each other as well as working hard together.

What inspires you guys the most? Asked by: Andre Karleon
There’s not really one thing that inspires us the most but a lot of different things pertaining to daily life. Things we see or listen to can be inspiring. For instance we can be inspired by music when we try to come up with a choreography to match the music.

Who's your biggest rival crew? In Korea and in the world? Asked by: Daeseok Koh
We consider all crews our rivals, whether in Korea or around the world. We don't target any one crew as our biggest rival.

What would you guys do if you were not b-boys? Asked by: Ama Asemaga
We’ve all never wanted to do anything besides dancing. However, we have spoken about things we would like to do if we were given the time away from dancing and that would be to start a clothing business or drawing. 

Do you guys listen to k-pop? Asked by: Vince Avila
Yes. We listen to all the recent groups and k-pop that is popular at the moment.

Do you think you can win a battle at BOTY without Hong 10? Asked by: Mcmite Trungie
Of course. It might even be easier. Perhaps, we would lose if Hong10 were there. He tends to make mistakes... :)

Do you have any problems with family or girlfriends? :) Especially when you have to prepare for competitions? Asked by Andre Karleon
A little because we can unintentionally be negligent towards them because of our busy schedule but for the most part they are very understanding. Especially since we make it up to them after the battles!

Do you think you are going to win Braun BOTY two years in a row?? Asked by: Kim Dubstep
